FORT POINT
SCHOOL PRESENTATION JAN 30th 2009 |
|
| If
interested in helping with the Fort Point school event on Friday Jan
30th, please email Rob Orr at
robtorr@sbcglobal.net. Please provide Rob with your unit, cell phone, home phone, and proposed living history demonstration. Rob will present the list of potential impressions to the Head Ranger and a decision will be made as to how many reenactors will be needed. This event will most likely be small, led mainly by the rangers, and have only 4 stations. We could use some infantry to do drill and demonstrate camp life. Thanks, Rob Or See the Fort Point Poster submitted by Robert Orr. Click Here! |

![]() FORT POINT OVERNIGHTER UPDATE Jan 31 - Feb 1st 2009 |
|
The overnighter at Fort Point on Jan
31st is moving ahead well. Please read the updated info below. If you are interested and have not already RSVP'd, please email Mike Musante (mikemusante@hotmail.com) by Jan 11th 2008 with the following info: 1) your name 2) your unit 3) your phone numbers (cell and home) 4) your email 5) license plate number, make, model, year on your car that will be parked near the fort Due to the large amount of interest, we may need to impose a limit on those that can participate. Also, reenactors (families or couples) will most likely NOT be able to get a room by themselves. Reenactors will most likely sleep in rooms with their companies, but more details are forthcoming. There will be locked rooms for changing and storing of gear during the day. But if reenactors are interested in privacy, they may want to go to a hotel in the evening. We will end at 2pm on Sunday so people can get home to watch the Superbowl. As before, Union and Civilian impressions only, but you can galvanize. Union forces will be under the command of Tom Bispo (ACWA) for the weekend. If you have any questions, please contact mikemusante@hotmail.com or go to the 20th Maine website (www.20thmaine.net). |

ACWA NEW EVENT! Check your December, |

This
year, the event coincides with the Lincoln's
Birthday Bicentennial. In honor of this notable occasion, the Yankees and Confederates have pledged a truce for the weekend so as to allow their brethren an opportunity to observe the event without fear of a great effusion of blood! Presidents' Day weekend presents a fine opportunity for reenactors to do Living History presentations for the public, and to conduct training within their own unit. Knott's Berry Farm appears ready to spend more money for advertising the event this year, so this bodes well for Living History interaction, as well as recruiting opportunities. There will be no pressure on anyone to meet a demanding daily schedule, and the weekend will present the first opportunity for most to pick up where we left off after the Moorpark event. We will once again march in a grand parade each day through the park in numbers that, frankly, stunned Knott's management last year. I seem to recall that we had 375 reenactors registered for the event last year, so if there is a larger pure Civil War encampment (that is, an encampment, not a reenactment) in California, I don't know about it. The nice thing about this event is that everyone, both the public, as well as reenactors, will be admitted FREE! And a really nice thing about this event is that each reenactor, age 13 and over, who participates both days at the event will receive from Knott's Berry Farm two free adult admission tickets that can be used anytime during the remainder of 2009. Adult admission to the park is currently $44.95. If you haven't attended this event before, ask yourself this: when was the last time you attended an event where every adult participant received $90.00 worth of anything just for participating? The famous Knott's Berry Farm chicken dinner will be served on Saturday night. Afterward, Mistress Ginger Alberti will call the free dance. All of this will take place in the Gold Rush Camp, so a much nicer venue is hard to come by. Just as we were last year, we will be required to have a minimum number of dinner tickets sold in advance, so I will be providing the details as we get closer to the event. (And don't worry! The great "coffee" issue has been addressed! ) As we get closer to the event, I will be sending out more information. For now, however, please circle Saturday and Sunday of Presidents' Day Weekend, February 14-15, on your calendar! Until then...Ed Mann |
